03 oil painting
I've always loved painting, but I got hooked in 2018 when during our stint in The Bay Area. Since I also loved nature, I gravitated towards the Plein Air painting scene out West. Solo hiking with an easel, a sunhat and a few tubes of paint is how I bonded with the region. Plein Air requires a different skill set than studio painting; editing the world into one frame, working quickly to manage changing light and bearing the elements. While we no longer live in California, painting in nature will be a lifelong passion and a preferred method of exploring new places.
These days in Brooklyn, I spend most of my time in the studio, working on larger scale paintings. I use the three primary colors (plus white) and am obsessed with mixing color. I capture personal moments in time with interesting perspective, rich color and strong light. Painting is a practice that I look forward to each day and will continue to evolve with throughout my life.
